About the Course

As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control.

By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the front line of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and well-being of those receiving care and support.  You may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. 

As an apprentice on this pathway you will cover many aspects of adult care including care practices, principles and standards, safeguarding and the importance of communication and active listening.

What You'll Study

On this apprenticeship you will cover units on;

  • Adult care practices
  • Principles and standards including care planning and duty of care
  • Professional boundaries and individual dignity and respect
  • Supporting individual physical and mental well-being to help people live as independently as possible - including individual control and choice and person-centred care
  • Safeguarding including addressing personal rights and safety
  • Dealing with abuse, comments and complaints and whistle-blowing
  • Leadership and team management including monitoring and reviewing care plans and encouraging others to comply with regulations, policies and procedures
  • Communication skills including advocacy, confidentiality and verbal, non-verbal and written communication.

Qualification Level

For this apprenticeship you will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including maths and English Language, or equivalent.

You will also need to demonstrate a "can-do" attitude and a commitment to adult care.
