About the Course

This short course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of Autism, including:

  • How to adopt a positive approach to supporting individuals with Autism
  • The current legislative framework relating to individuals with Autism and how different theories have developed over time
  • How to support and manage transitions for individuals with Autism
  • The range of therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with Autism and co-occurring conditions
  • How to support communication and social interaction for individuals with Autism
  • How to develop an understanding of how individuals with Autism may be vulnerable and the support worker’s role and responsibilities relating to safeguarding according to legislative requirements

What Will I Study?

You will learn:

  • Autism in context
  • Positive behavioural support for individuals with Autism
  • Understand support and management of transitions for individuals with Autism
  • Therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with Autism and co-occuring conditions
  • Communication and social interaction with individuals with Autism
  • Safeguarding and resilience in Autism

What Will I Need?

To enrol with us you must:

  • Live in London or a non-devolved area of England
  • Be aged 19 or over
  • Be able to provide current proof of JSA, IS, UC or ESA or proof of salary. You will be contacted and asked to complete a short English assessment and enrolment, on-line or at the college
  • Be able to provide a British or Irish Passport with three years’ residency in the EU/EEA

or

  • Have a European Union Settlement Scheme residence (EUSS) with three years’ residency in the EU/EEA and UK and have lived in the UK prior to 31 December 2020

or

  • Have a biometric residence card permitting study in the UK along with having lived in the UK for the at least the last three years

Assessment

You will be required to complete the course assessment which is based on portfolios of evidence for each mandatory unit and one assignment for each chosen optional unit.

  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children's Workforce (Early Years Educator)
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England)
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support Services
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support
  • NCFE CACHE Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England)
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • NCFE Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
